Jobs & Internships at JES
Here you can find our current job offers.
We look forward to receiving your application!
JES sees diversity as a process and an opportunity to work together in a team with people from as many different walks of life, cultural socializations and perspectives on our society as possible. We therefore specifically encourage all people to apply to us.
The artistic profile of JES is characterized by diversity. The work is varied and challenging – with play developments, drama and dance productions, premieres and adaptations. Collective working methods are part of our self-image. The contentual and artistic direction of the theater and the repertoire are developed collectively. Accordingly, we offer the opportunity to help shape many areas of the theater, for teamwork as well as for individual development and the chance to initiate participatory and other work processes.
JES is looking for a dramaturg starting from the 2025/26 season
JES is looking for an assistant director starting from the 2025/26 season
JES is looking for an event technician at the earliest possible date
Internship
We offer school graduates, young people in vocational training and university students the opportunity for an internship in one of the following departments:
Theatre education/facilitation, Dramaturgy, Public Relations, Event Technology/Stage Technology
What can you expect?
The internship serves as career orientation in the respective field. In Theatre education/facilitation, as well as Dramaturgy and Public Relations, you will accompany the work at JES. You will gain insights into the daily work of a theatre company, support and contribute to (depending on the current projects) the artistic, educational, and organizational work for young people.
In Event Technology, you will gain insight into the comprehensive technical support of projects and productions at JES.
Good to know:
The work in a theatre is remarkably diverse and quite intense sometimes. Openness, resilience, and good communication within the team are therefore essential. If you are curious, flexible, and able to work independently, then the internship at JES is suitable for you.
Duration:
Usually, 3 months
It is a full-time internship with a maximum of 40 hours per week.
Working hours:
Usually during the work week, from 9 AM to 5:30 PM as well as on selected evenings and on mutual agreement. Sometimes projects also take place on weekends. In that case, there are compensatory days during the week.
Workplace:
Junges Ensemble Stuttgart, Eberhardstr. 61a, 70173 Stuttgart
Compensation:
Starting September, 350 € per month (for a 3-month internship) plus reimbursement of public transportation costs up to the monthly cost of the youth ticket BW “D-Ticket JugendBW” (currently €30.42/month).
Vacation entitlement:
5 work days
How to apply:
First, send an informal inquiry via email. Please send all further documents such as cover letter, resume, certificates, etc. only upon request.

Questions about your visit to JES
Before your visit
What do I do if I booked a ticket in the webshop and have not received a ticket confirmation?
In this case, please contact our ticket team via phone or e-mail:
0711 / 218 480 18, ticket@jes-stuttgart.de
What do I do if I can’t come spontaneously?
Please call us (tel. 0711 / 218 480 18) so that we don’t wait for you. If you have already bought your tickets, we unfortunately cannot refund the money. If this is the case, please give us a call or write to us and we will try to find a solution together.
What do I do if I’m too late?
For institutions/school groups/daycare centres: If you’ll arrive at the start of the performance or shortly afterwards, please call us (0711 / 218 480 18). We may then be able to find a solution!
For individual guests: Please call us, sometimes we can grant late admission. Unfortunately, this is not possible for some performances, as you might have to walk across the stage to get to your seat.
Do I have to book a ticket or can I just turn up spontaneously?
You are welcome to come by spontaneously. However, we cannot guarantee that there will always be a seat available. It is best to call us shortly before the performance or check our website to see if the date is marked ‘sold out’. School classes and daycare groups must book in advance.
Is JES accessible?
We are constantly trying to become more accessible and make it possible for everyone to visit our theatre. There is a lift, there is an accessible foyer and there are performances with German sign language and audio description. You can find more information under the rider Accessibility and Inclusion.
We are always happy to receive feedback. Feel free to write to us and tell us about your experience at JES. Please contact Iolanda (matthias.nagel@jes-stuttgart.de, 0711 / 218 480 17).
Who can I contact if I have any other questions before my visit?
Please contact Iolanda (benni.bosler@jes-stuttgart.de, 0711 / 218 480 15) or Julia (julia.birk@jes-stuttgart.de 0711 / 218 480 16)
If you are already at the JES, you can contact performance staff and our desk or cash desk service. You can recognise the performance staff by a badge with their name which they wear around their neck.
How long before the performance starts should I be there?
We open our foyer one hour before the performance starts. From then on, you are welcome to be in the JES and relax with a coffee or a soft drink. You should be at JES at least 15 minutes before the performance starts.
For school classes/day-care groups: We ask larger groups to be at JES at least half an hour before the start of the performance so that you have enough time to relax, get your tickets, have a snack, go to the toilet… If you arrive later, please let us know by phone.
How does admission work?
Shortly before the performance begins, our staff will make an announcement over a microphone. In this announcement, you and everyone else will be welcomed and you will find out exactly how the admission process works and what you need to be aware of.
Shortly after the announcement, the usher will bring the audience into the performance space.
In general, it is not possible to be admitted beforehand.
If the choice of seats is particularly important to you (or to someone accompanying you) or if the sensory overload in the foyer is too much, please contact us.
Can I choose my seat freely?
Yes, your ticket is not linked to a seat. We have benches in each of our rooms where performances take place. You are free to choose where you want to sit.
During your visit
Are food and drinks available at JES?
Yes, you can buy small snacks and drinks at the counter. Tap water is free. However, you are not allowed to take food and drinks into the theatre.
Is there a wardrobe?
Yes, we have several coat racks and large boxes in which rucksacks and bags can be stored. We accept no liability if something is stolen. However, this has never happened. There will be a JES employee in the foyer during the performance.
Does everyone have to stay quiet throughout the performance?
You can always clap, laugh and react to what you see on stage! We’d appreciate if you didn’t have private conversations. It distracts the other people in the audience and also the actors on stage, who have to concentrate. They can hear you from the stage.
Can I get up and leave my seat during the performance?
For performances aimed at primary school age and up, it is generally better if you can stay seated throughout so that everyone can follow the performance well. If you urgently need to go to the toilet, for example, it’s fine if you leave the room for a short time. And especially if you feel unwell or need some space, you can of course leave the performance. When you feel ready to come back, you are welcome to do so.
For performances for very young audiences/kids, it’s no problem at all if you go out several times and move around. These performances are designed for this to happen. So don’t worry if this is your first visit to the theatre and it might all be a bit much. Just leave for a short time, come back and decide what’s good for you.
Are there rules regarding what I should wear?
Absolutely not, just come in whatever feels comfortable to you.
After your visit
Can I stay at JES for a while after the performance?
Yes, you’re very welcome to do so! Our bar will be open after the performance. We would be delighted if you would like to stay for a coffee or a lemonade.
Who do I contact if I lost something?
Please call 0711 / 21848015, the lost and found is in Benni’s office.
Who can I contact if I feel uncomfortable during my visit?
Please contact Lee by email or by phone (lee.muelders@jes-stuttgart.de, 0711 / 218 480 15)
Who can I turn to if I am made uncomfortable with any of the topics of a performance or if they have triggered something unpleasant in me?
Please contact Frederic by email or by phone (frederic.lilje@jes-stuttgart.de, 0711 / 218 480 25)
More questions
